The doctor–patient relationship is built on transparency and on taking the time to help each person fully understand their condition.

My commitment is to put the patient first, always: that means being honest when surgery isn't necessary, recognizing when a colleague has greater experience, and exhausting every conservative alternative before the operating room. Surgery is always my last option, never my first.

My father taught me to ask myself three questions before every surgery: Do I know how to perform this procedure? Is it indicated for this patient? Is there someone who can do it better than I can?

This self-scrutiny, combined with an exceptional multidisciplinary team, minimizes the margin for error and maximizes safety.
